Our guests won’t be asked to carry their clothes or overnight bags for the entire tour. With Life’s An Adventure, you will carry as little as your water bottle, camera and lunch every day.


Wow Factor – Cruising Queen Charlotte Sound by Private Boat
The highlight of this journey will be travelling to the start of your walks by private boat. Cruising the Marlborough Sounds to the track heads each day is an amazing way to start your walk, allowing you to discover by water the intricate maze of inlets, coves and bays with their backdrop of lush forested mountain ranges.


Wow Factor – Abel Tasman Kayaking experience
The wilderness reserve of Abel Tasman National Park reaches from Marahau in the south and Wainui in the north. As well as the many beautiful walking trails of this area, the coves and waters of this area are just as fascinating and home to New Zealand fur seal colonies. For an up-close experience, we have included a guided kayak tour from our accommodation for the chance to see these playful creatures.

2 nights at the waterfront Bay of Many Coves Resort
In Queen Charlotte Sound enjoy 2 nights at the waterfront Furneaux Lodge. This unique accommodation is set on the waterfront at Endeavour Inlet offering stunning views of the Sound. Guests will stay in luxury suites.


2 nights at the waterfront Awaroa Lodge
Whilst in Able Tasman spend 2 nights at the secluded Awaroa Lodge. Not accessible by road, this unique accommodation is surrounded by pristine beaches and native forests and is simply paradise. Located in the northern end of Abel Tasman National Park this superb accommodation is warm and inviting with a lounge area, library and bar in the main lodge, to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Day 1

Walk Ship Cove to Endeavour Inlet
Note: Guests will be required to arrive into Picton the day before the tour starts. Picton can be reached by flying into Wellington and then either flying from Wellington to Picton (30-minute flight) or taking the ferry from Wellington to Picton (a 3-hour cruise through the Cook Straits). Suggestions for Picton Hotels are included in our pre-departure information.
Meet your guides at 8.00am London Quay Wharf Picton this morning. From here we join our private boat for a water transfer through the stunning Queen Charlotte Sound to the start of our walk at Ship Cove. Today we walk in the footsteps of explorer Captain James Cook. Walking through magnificent virgin rainforests, you will emerge at the ridgeline for breathtaking views of Cooks Strait and Resolution Bay before descending to the sheltered shoreline of Endeavor Inlet our destination. We spend 2 nights here at the waterfront Furneaux Lodge. Enjoy time to relax in your suite soaking up the views, or take a swim int he Sound before meeting the group for a sensational a la carte dinner featuring local produce and superb Marlborough Sounds wines. (Distance: 15kms. 5 hours walking with breaks. Grade: Easy to Moderate) Day 2

Walk Punga Cove to Bay of Many Coves

After breakfast, we enjoy a scenic boat cruise to pretty Punga Cove to start our day’s walk, today we will traverse the ridge and walk into our accommodation. This is the most rewarding section of the journey, from the top of the ridge you will take in magnificent panoramas of the Sounds. We start our gradual climb out of Camp Bay to Kenepuru Saddle and follow the ridge separating Queen Charlotte Sound from Kenepuru Sound. The last section of our walk down to the water. From here we transfer by water back to Furneaux Lodge. Enjoy time to relax in your room or simply soak up the views. Tonight the group comes together for dinner in the restaurant served with New Zealand’s fine wines and delicious cuisine. (Distance: 12kms. 5.5 hours walking with breaks. Grade: Medium to Difficult)
Day 3

Walk Endeavour Inlet to Camp Bay - Celebratory Lunch - Nelson
After breakfast, our walk sets out from Endeavour Inlet, named after one of Captain James Cook’s ships. From Endeavour Inlet the track stays near the shoreline and wanders through regenerating forest rich in small bird life. The track continues around Big Bay, passing through native forest and traversing over low saddles offering amazing vantage points for the photographer. The gradual descent curls along the shoreline to Camp Cove.Enjoy a late lunch at Furneaux Lodge while waiting for our private boat transfer through the Marlborough Sounds back to Picton. From here we head to the city of Nelson. Our accommodation tonight is at the stylish Rutherford Hotel. Enjoy time to relax before dinner in the Oceano Panorama Restaurant featuring a selection of modern cuisine including fabulous local seafood and wonderful local wines. (Distance: 10kms. 4-5 hours walking with breaks. Grade: Easy to Moderate)
Day 4

Walk from Totaranui to Awaroa Inlet

After a hot breakfast, transfer by minibus to the charming seaside town of Kaiteriteri. We join our boat and cruise along the stunning coastline of Abel Tasman National Park, taking in spectacular views of crystal clear aqua water, pretty coves and picturesque beaches along the way. We reach the golden beach of Totaranui where we disembark to start our walk. We cross a stunning granite headland above Skinners Point to reach Goat Bay and then head on to pretty Waiharakeke bay, the track crosses a substantial headland to the north end of Awaroa inlet, the largest in Able Tasman National Park. We walk into our accommodation, the secluded Awaroa Lodge, surrounded by pristine waterways and native forest. Enjoy time to relax before joining the group for a fabulous a la carte dinner in the Lodge’s restaurant featuring creative local produce, accompanied with fabulous New Zealand wines. (Distance: 7kms. 3 hours walking. Grade: Easy) Day 5 Morning Kayak with the seals. Walk Awaroa to Bark Bay After breakfast, there is the option to kayak from the lodge on the stunning waters of this spectacular marine park. Local New Zealand fur seal colonies can often be seen frolicking in the waters on this journey, and it is one of the most memorable kayak tours of a lifetime. For those not wanting to join the kayak enjoy time to relax or enjoy a sleep in. We then all head from the lodge on our walk to Bark Bay. We reach Tonga Bay by climbing over Tonga saddle, reaching Onetahuti, a stunning beach surrounded by imposing granite headlands. We continue on, passing a historical Granite Quarry site. Beyond the quarry, the track once again climbs over another forested headland, descending to beautiful Bark Bay. Afterwards, we are met by our boat for the return boat ride back to Awaroa Lodge. Tonight the group comes together for dinner in the restaurant served with New Zealand’s fine wines and modern creative cuisine. (Distance: 13.5kms. 5 hours of walking. 3 hours paddling) Day 6 Walk Anchorage to Apple Tree Bay After an enjoyable breakfast, we transfer by private boat to Anchorage. Anchorage is one of the most popular parts of the Able Tasman. We take a detour to Pitt Head for a picnic lunch and the exquisite Te Pukatea Bay, arguably the most appealing of all the beaches in the Park. We allow 90 minutes for the side track and then head back on the coastal track crossing a forested saddle, descending to the sea beyond Yellow point and to our final destination at Apple Tree Bay. From here we join our boat transfer back to Kaiteriteri before joining our minibus back to Nelson arriving at approximately 6.00pm. The end of a remarkable journey. (Distance: 7kms. 4 hours walking. Grade: Moderate)

How fit do I need to be to do this walk?

All our tours require a general level of fitness, for more specific information go to the itinerary page for this tour.
Please note if you have any medical conditions which may affect your walking we suggest you seek medical advice before booking this tour.

Is there a portered walk option?

All our guests will have their overnight bags transported, leaving you free to relax and enjoy the walk instead of struggling with a large backpack.

So what will I need to carry?

All our guests will just need to carry a small day pack with water, camera and any small personal items you want access to during the day. You won’t even need to carry your lunch as your guide will carry the groups lunch.

Do you cater for different dietary requirements?

Yes we can provide for any special dietary requirements. When booking please specify your special dietary requirements with as much details as possible. If you require specific meals such as gluten free, vegetarians that don’t eat fish or vegan, other than our standard menu you can either bring your own supplements or a $50 surcharge will apply.

If I am travelling on my own do I need to pay a single supplement?

If you are happy to twin share a room with another solo traveller, there is no extra charge. (If we can’t find another solo traveller to share with, you will have your own room at no extra cost). However if you want to request a room specifically for yourself you will be required to pay an additional fee, enquire for details.

As our 7:30am pickup is at Hotel Grand Chancellor in Launceston, for convenience we recommend this hotel of choice for your pre -tour accommodation.
